The working principle of the differential is to divide the torque output by the engine into two, allowing two different speeds to be output when steering. When the car is driving in a straight line, the two planetary gears only revolve and do not rotate, and the power is evenly transmitted to the two half shafts, so that the left and right wheels rotate at the same speed. When the car turns, the inner wheels will receive greater resistance, resulting in different forces on the half shafts on both sides, which causes the planetary gears to rotate. In this way, the speed of the inner half shaft will slow down, and the speed of the outer half shaft will increase, thereby realizing the difference in the speed of the wheels on both sides.

The differential assembly plays a critical role in ensuring smooth and efficient operation of a vehicle's drivetrain, especially when cornering. It enables the left and right wheels to rotate at different speeds, which is essential when turning. During a turn, the outer wheel must travel a longer distance than the inner wheel, and the differential assembly compensates for this by allowing the outer wheel to rotate faster while slowing down the inner wheel. This action reduces tire wear and prevents driveline strain.

The differential assembly consists of several key components, including the ring gear, pinion gear, and planetary gears. These gears work together to distribute engine power to the wheels while enabling them to turn at different speeds.
